An RxCrush user has expressed concern about nurses crushing hazardous drugs on the floor outside of a hood or vented area even with the sealed RxCrush pouch. We would love your input on whether you are seeing similar resistance from nurses whether using the RxCrush pouch or not.
During our quality testing of PP06 and PP05-02 Pill Pouches we found no medication or medication dust escapes if proper protocol is followed. Dissolved medication in solution also do not escape if protocol is followed. Protocol is described in the Pill Crusher Instruction flow chart on the "How to Use" page. Vapor of volatile medicines are not contained after the syringe is detached from the pill pouch so vapors do escape. Question was asked by Ngoc Nuygen, PharmD Lead Clinical Pharmacist BCPS from San Ramon Regional Medical Center.
