Can RxCrush Pill pouches be used more than once?

RxCrush PP06 and PP08 with locking ENFit pill pouches are designated as single-use items and are not intended to be cleaned or reused for more than one dose.

If you choose to use them for more than one dose, you face several risks:

Infection and Contamination: The pouches are non-sterile and intended for single-patient, single-use only. Reusing single-use medical devices can lead to cross-infection and contamination by bacteria or fungi.

Inaccurate Dosing: Residue from previous medications can remain in the pouch. Even with flushing, small amounts of the prior dose may stay behind, potentially leading to an unintentional mix of medications or an incorrect dosage of the new medication.

Reduced Effectiveness: Repeated use may compromise the integrity of the pouch or its locking ENFit connector, leading to leaks of pulverized medication dust or dissolved liquid.

Safety Hazards: Reusing pouches increases the risk of exposure to hazardous drug dust, which these sealed systems are specifically designed to prevent.

While the pouches can hold multiple pills at once (approximately 8 for PP06 and 5 for PP08) for a single administration, they should be discarded immediately after that dose is completed. For more information, you can review the manufacturer's Instructions for Use.
